Hey guys, this is my first post about my first grow.

    The Nuts n Bolts:
    • 32qt storage bin
    • 4" spray paint line
    • 1.5L Humidifier
    • Inkbird ICH200 Humidity Controller
    • BN Link Repeat Cycle Timer
    • 120mm computer fan and micro screen on it (facing out as an exhaust)
    • 12" LED light bar (not particularly bright)

    20200913_155012.jpg 20200913_154956.jpg 20200913_155032.jpg 20200913_155022.jpg 20200913_155116.jpg 20200913_155059.jpg

    Spawn and Substrate
    • 2*5lbs of manure substrate (North Spore)
    • 5*1lbs bags of rye berry spawn (Shroom Supply)

    Current Situation
    • Rye berry bags about 50% inoculated after 3 weeks
    • 77.5 degrees with about 50% humidity
    • Need to get my monotub ready and test run it a few times before adding substrate and inoculated-spawn
    20200913_162803.jpg 20200913_162752.jpg 20200913_162559.jpg

    Issue
    • Will the microspore tape coverings be enough for FAE?
    • The holes follow the North Spore monotub guidelines (minus I didn't use polyfil) which is:
    • 2*2" holes per long side and,
    • A 3" hole on the opposite fan side

    Other factors
    • Repeat Cycle set at 5min on, 1 min off (for the exhaust fan)
    • Humidity Controller set between 80 and 90% (starts when humidity drops to 80, stops when reached 90)
    • At these current settings, the humidifier turns on once every 10 minutes and runs for about 90 seconds.
    20200913_155045.jpg

    Final Ask
    • So will this be enough for FAE?
    • I've done enough research that says this is fine, even that micropore is fine without an exhaust fan to bring air through. The same person who said that, also said you can always just add more holes if you need more FAE.
    • So how can you tell (without purchasing a pricey CO2 reader), if you're FAE is sufficient? I heard if the stalks grow tall and thin - that's a good way to tell, but they kind of do that anyway.
    • In your opinion, should I cut more holes or say screw it and go with polyfil?
    • I don't like the bulkiness of polyfil, and to that end, how much of the space it takes away from the growing mushrooms - but I am willing to listen to collective reasoning from those with experience.
Thoughts? I got about a week or so to decide.

Wow that looks intense, the patches work as good as polyfil, more the merriier though if you think it is going to be automated, fresh air exchange is king, other than that mate i would genuinely not have a clue where to start with all that kit you got showing, hope it all works great for you

I love to grow but my tubs look like this, so i'd feel criminal trying to advise on a system i've never even seen before, let alone working producing fungi, or preferably ran myself a good few times until i nailed it so that i could advise, looks awesome I hope it works

    GGTBod,

Thank you for the expeditious reply sir and the sentiments towards my set-up! Do you have any good way for measuring CO2 levels or do you just kind of do it by feel? I imagine you fan and spray with water yourself a few times a day?

Your set up looks pretty boss - I must say.

    Thanks again!

Thanks mate, lots of fun in a good monotub run or two.

I just get in a pattern, once at pinhead stage of going in there and fanning and misting, hard to explain but like you said you get a feel for it, i thought i had a pic hand of my current set up but must all be on my phone, a tub or two :D

You should do a grow log as you, myself for one i'd be totally interested in seeing how it all goes together

Damn you dove in head first! Welcome and I have heard during colonization of monotub put 2 or 3 pieces of micro tape on and to tell for nice levels there should be a evaporation ring around FAE holes and the rest should have a slight mist look on walls, as far as I have read I have never achieved such success lol!
Fruiting just pull off and put 2 on bottom and 1 on top i think but i also run unmodified tubs... loose on top and tight on bottom for fruiting and tight all around for colonization.. enjoy!

Thanks for the welcome dude! It honestly did not cost too much, so I just dove in: I kept thinking I could do it better if I added a fan... then humidifier... then LED light bar... and every time it was a 10-20 bucks usually. Still got to get the food dehydrator for the end.

I still dont have a dehydrator I guess I like the fruits of my loom laying out to air dry lol... hey if you can get a nice setup for cheap and have the room go for it! If you have even more room get a homemade martha tent...

you know, this being my first time I was going to do it around 50%. I read this and that. Is 30% better? I know I said mine were 50% colonized but they may actually be closer to 30 right now. I was going to watch a youtube video that seemed credible enough.

I have read 30% is the best and then no more shakes until a day or 3 before spawning to monotub... people also claim it speeds up colonization as after a shake there are more mates to find... just don't rip bags kneed the bag like your massaging it to sleep.
