Hello all! :) I was curious if I could just open up my grain spawn bag that is colonized, mist it daily and put it in a tub with a lid and let it fruit? Will that take longer than mixing it with substrate via mono tub tek? Ive seen grow bags do well but they have all the substrate in the bag. This is rye berry grain for reference.

I have a proper setup colonizing right now that will be in a 55q tub. This small 1q bag was my first go round and was more of a test. I don’t care if its a small yield, just want some kind of results, its been almost 3 months lol took a long time to colonize. TIA!!

Colonized grain will fruit if left colonized long enough. If its in a jar it will throw fruits inside the jar pressed against the glass. Its called invitro fruiting. I know that you can fruit colonized grain for certain. When its totally colonized open the top of the bag to allow air flow and help trigger pinning. Block all light from hitting the non fruiting surface sides and bottom to prevent side bottom pinning. fan and mist as usual. You will get a much better yield mixing it with substrate in a small shoebox tub or substrate right into the bag if its big enough. If all goes correct and theres no contamination then from the day you mix the sub and spawn it will be roughly 30 days or a bit less to see full size fruits. PE takes a bit longer. If you put your grains into fruiting it will be roughly 2 weeks to see full size fruits. The difference is an extra 2 weeks when spawn is mixed with substrate but well worth the wait. Grains do fruit but not nearly as good as grains and substrate.
