I use jars for pretty much everything exept when i want to expand the mycel to large quantities.
    Then the bags are super.

How do you run it higher than 15psi? Modified weight button?

I think nothing beats steam-drying. I will need to figure out a way to steam-dry big amounts of grains at a time efficiently. Probably something colander alike, only bigger.

Properly hydrated & dried grain is the way to go :)

Ah, of course. I like the dry-side idea very much.

...and I also like to let my PC get as high as it will go. I have the toggle valve
instead of a bobbling weight. This allows me to get up to max pressure without
    losing steam.

    Take care,

    JD

Vibration; if anyone asks, you didn't hear it from me :p BUT, some people have had success with raising their pressure by affixing a coin to the top of their weight ;)

My Stereoclave does not have a weight at all.

It has a toggle switch that will emit steam when pressure
get higher than the limit. ...but this limit is 20 PSI which
is 5 lbs higher than the toggle weight limit.

I am going to start a new thread to share a grain trick that
Lipa laid on me a while ago.

    Take care,

    JD

I just got into bags, I'm hooked. Have had a couple losses due to the heat in the PC. I wish I could answer your capacity question. I know I can do 10 QT jars in my PC, and I can also do 10 bags with 3qts worth and had room to spare. Could have done 12 but wanted some room left for steam flow. (So thats like 30QT jars in one run!)

I lost one bag in the PC because I was trying different things. I used masking tape to tape the bags in a rolled shape, and they expanded anyway. So where the tape was holding the bag, the bag expanded and the tape stayed still, and ripped the bag. Lost another because the corner moved down onto the bottom and just plain got weak. The 3rd one was because I went a little too nuts breaking it up after cooking. Lesson learned there. I am going to the Goodwill (store selling secondhand clothes and household goods) for some old T-Shirts. I'm going to wrap the bottom 4 bags with the shirts. I wish I could remember whos idea that was, but it wasn't mine.

Bags are kinda expensive if your not buying a cagillion from Unicorn. I paid around 1$ each after shipping. I can get QT jars everyday 12count for 10$, if theres a sale, 8$. Having said that, I can also only do 1QT of spawn in a jar. I have been doing 3 in bags, and am going to do 4 from here on out. I feel its worth it. I can do 3 to 4X the spawn in every run, and don't have to wash jars. I have huge hands that don't fit in jars, so I use a toilet scrubber, and it never gets everything. Sometimes the misses will help, but theres always so many damned jars to clean.

I do not have an impulse sealer. I have seen the teks where you use tyvek in the bags while PC'ing them. I go a different route. I put in my spawn, and then hold the bag up and get as much air out as I can. Then fold the rest of the bag, starting from the spawn and working my way up. Just getting as much air out as I can. I roll the top over and tape around it with some 2" masking tape. I will take some pics for you if you like.

I find that sealing them before the pc works great for me. i am also using MS injection at this point. When I progress to Agar, I am unsure if I will seal them or not. Also, I would recommend NOT sealing them if your not going to make a bunch at once. My first run I only made 3, and they balloned up and moved all around the PC. I think that the multitude of bags help keep them from expanding to the point of rupture. REMEMBER THE PLATE ON THE TOP!!!

Like I said, I havent done this 1000 times, just thought I would share what has worked for me. If you need some pics or maybe a short vid of it, let me know.

i don't have time to read thru right now but use sturdy rubber bands to hold your bags together, they will survive the pc for i know two hours, but likely longer, and they expand with the bag while keeping it closed. line your pc with an old tshirt or pillow case then put the bags in, that way none melt on the sides or bottom if you aren't already doing that

Awesome Major! I should have known it was your idea for the Tshirts. Wasn't trying to steal credit, just couldn't remember. I will have to get some big rubber bands.

One of the odd points here is that the sacks will continue to draw in air while the
sacks cool. This has always struck me as being the reason for the tyvek sleeves,
that they filter the air being drawn in during cooling.

I sit my sacks in front of my flow hood while cooling. As a result I leave my hood
on for a day at a time on occasions. I am sure that this will use up the life of my
hood, but do not know what else I would trust.

My hood still rocks after two years of this use, and I will buy a new filter when the
    time comes....

    Take care,

I'd be happy to mail you anything you want as a gift (marked "Gift" on the customs slip) if that is any help. That goes for anyone on here, as long as its legal where your at.

Wow. You should buy a bulk pack from Unicorn in USD and re-sell in Euros. You could clean up.

Last time i checked it only made sense to ship 100+ bags, which is probably bit too much for me, but that was 2-3 years ago so maybe i should check again. I have invested some cash in mason jars (which are pretty hard to come by in this part of the world) and fungi perfecti filter discs, so i'm gonna stick with them for a while.
