Wierd it never happens to me. I only get local contaminations from time to time due to long colonization times.

It because you are doing cakes. They have really good protection and you don't have to open them to put a vedge inside. Also a lot of contams happens later when you mix the spawn with substrate.

I also almost never have contams in cakes (the only time i had was last month when i used contaminated LC

Is it true that if I have a long colonization time, the sub can just contaminate by itself? I noticed this recently in my big grows, it seems as though the mycelium looses the battle.

If the sub is sterile and there's no way for any foreign objects to enter then that is impossible. Ok, basic amino acids can sporadically creates in water with the right conditions, but it's not likely it will fold to become a virus just like that, even less likely a mold.
    I would say no :)

This goes back to what I said in a previous post. If there is myc in the jar, it is no longer sterile. It's no longer sterile by true definition, and is no longer sterile because there is always something that will piggy back into the jar. That's why you want to be as clean as possible; to give the myc the upper hand in the race. A longer than usual colonization time usually means bacteria (which is usually hard to see, and is almost always in there at some degree.). So it doesn't necessarily contam "By itself" it just looses the race. This year had been fucked for bacteria in the air man. IDK why. The huge farm just north of here (Produces over 30,000lbs a year) had a huge hit as well. It's affecting everybody. Myself included. I have done alot of discussion and reading on the matter.

Yeah Larynx I have seen the same. Lots of folks talking about heavy contamination this year. I am glad I switched to polyfil filters on my brf jars instead of verm barrier. The micro-organisms are on the offensive :) . A reason why I am not so eager to switch to large mono tubs from my cakes.... though I try some tubs bit by bit.

Yeah, not showing for me either. It's probably for the best in my case...if I see it I feel like I've got it, like some kind of projected hypochondria, lol.
