So I went hunting to and didnt find any. I have only been hunting morels for 2 years. This being my 3rd. I have a good spot that pumps out the yellows a little later in the year. Usually around Mothers Day. It was my first time hunting the spot I went to today so I took some pictures to share and get some opinions on. I am not a tree expert but there are alot of dead ones and the ground was wet in spots and dry in others. There is a small creek and the St. Joe river is a couple hundred ft away. So when the mushrooms are ready do you guys think I will have any luck here? Thanks, Rooster image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg

Looks like a good spot to me. But there are no guarantees with morels. Just gotta find what kind of trees they like in your area and get out there.

Yeah that's what I figured. My "for sure" yellow spot is on a hill right beside some train tracks. Various trees. As I said before I am pretty new to hunting these. This area is off a public park and is loaded with dead and dying trees. Hope it ends up being a hot spot. It's only 1.1 miles from my house lol. I guess just because the weather is right and yer in the woods doesn't mean they grow there. On,y in certain areas??

Morels are just always tricky heh. That's why my hunting spots are places I don't mind just wandering around for hours.

Yeah me too. I don't mind walking around in the woods and not finding anything lol. Would be a lot cooler if I did but it's all fun

Looks good. Some of those are definitely sycamore, a good tree around here. It looks like a spot that might be covered in standing flood water occasionally which have not found to be good. Possibly look nearby and find an area just a little out of the flood plane.

Yeah I just read something along those line about flood plains. It is definitely that. There is a run off creek for the st joe river in the foreground of the pics. The closer I get the wetter it gets. Thanks for the info Trout I will check this spot out in a few days probably.

I'm thinking of checking some early spots in the next 4-5 days!

Thanks GG I wish we would have found more lol. Only ended up finding 4 little guys. Would have liked to have left them there to grow a day or 2 but it was in a public park so. I am sure someone would have picked them or stepped on em lol. The guy I the visitor center said he checked in 3 other people hunting them before I got there. These were right on the trail not to far from the visitor center lol. Lucky us.

Yeah, I haven' put in enough time to find many honey holes. We have a plethora of fungi here, on the upside.

They are just starting here so I will be out there a lot in the next few weeks I hope. Going to a small motorcycle rally Friday and Saturday night. Will be home Sunday afternoon. Every year me and a buddy go into this patch of woods right across the street from camp and find a couple walmart bags full. We soak em and grill them for everyone at camp. I can't wait. Leave tomorrow afternoon.
