So I have a half pint of spawn I made from store bought shiitake spores I'm using wild bird seed atm I was wondering if it would be better to use coir or maybe coir with some ground tree bark. I want to expand my spawn for use in some sawdust logs. I just don't have and saw dust yet. Any tips or suggestions would be appreciated

I'd wait until you get some sawdust. You could keep it in the fridge a month or two and it should be fine.

The sawdust would make much better spawn than coir and ground tree bark.

Unfortunately I waited to long and the grain spoiled or something. Smelled like I was making wine or vinegar. Second time that's happened to me. Any idea why? I'm guessing it's fermentation but I don't have the slightest idea how to avoid it.
