Hello I tried to follow all the correct inoculation procedures. I just noticed this red spot in one of my grain jars and its in the bottom of the jar. Can anyone tell me what this is?

Hello redcat, The top layer still looks fine. I am thinking about doing a G2G from the top of the jar to a clean jar and see if that spoonful of grain has contaminates.

The whole jar is no good. If you do a g2g it will contaminate . I dont see the colonized portion that you are going to transfer. Do you have any spores left to try over ?

You both were Right.... I just opened that jar and I seen green mold on the top layer under the lid where I couldnt see it, also the garin smelled sick. I have 2 more jars just like that one with no mold , But the grain is slimey , so I am going to throw out the other jars too... I just didnt want to waste them , but why watse my time and cultivate a Bad batch of mushrooms. know what I did wrong and I am going to reorder and try again. Thank You

Contamination will inhibit fruiting quite well.

I would suggest you go with cakes again. I will do another run in one week and I thought we could do it together and maybe we can
    learn more. :)
