Its not a real laminar flow hood, but my adaptation between a real flow hood and the cheap ass version spouted by WillyMyco. I use a 20" Lasko Power Plus box fan on its highest setting, and a 20" MERV 16 filter taped together with gaffers tape as my "flow hood". I know it sounds stupid, but when following general sterile tek, it really works and more or less passes the lighter test. I tested this setup by putting open agar plates in front of the "flow hood" for 5, 10, 15, and 20 minutes, and then let them all incubate for a week and not a single speck of contamination grew on any of them. Since then I have also done about 40+ agar transfers, and another 30 grain inoculations with only about one contamination. I live in a one room studio that is a mycologists nightmare, and yet have had a phenomenal success rate. The whole setup costed only $150.

There was a study by a university in the midwest somewhere as i recall that figured if you make 2inch strips of cardboard and make a 2x2" squares with them(so it resembles a chess board or somethjng), and put that between the fan and filter, that that laminars the flow of air out and steadys it out... they went further and last I saw they had added a slight reduction from the fan to the 2x2 matrix... I'll see if I can find it still... I've used that for awhile and its worked great... if I cant find it ikk take a pic of mine..

Is the merv 16 filter that you’re using 20x20x1 or 20x20x5?
