Looks like he has perlite on the bottom and then a layer of substrate. Congrats on the 2nd flush!

It was initially a shoebox& started pinning like crazy on the sides so i dumped the cake out put it on a lid and set it inside a tote

I have a few little shoebox tubs that I use and I just took the bottom of them and spray painted it completely black then you're gotta don't have to worry about side pins they'll just come straight out the top if you're gonna do it cake method like you're doing I throw it on some kind of a wire rack like a cabinet organizer or something that way it can pin from all sides of the cake to get more that way Put a layer of pearl light at the bottom of the tub also and it will help hold humidity

How do you treat your cake in between first and second flush?

I puur water slowly over the top of cake til there is enough that that cake (if it didn't float) would be submerged pouring over top to ensure it gets soaked and let it sit with lid on for 24 hrs then I drain it out and replace lid I usually leave it closed for 2 days then introduce fresh air 2 times a day once early in morning when lights come on and before they turn off
