How and when do I uncover spawn tubs and mist the tub of (50/50 coir-verm-colonized substrate). Should I leave the tub covered for about a month before I mist and check for colonization? Thank You wssh.jpg

Should let it fully colonize for ~14 days, let the mycelium fully encase your substrate, keeping it in a cool, dark place. I put mine in the closet. After 2 weeks introduce fruiting conditions, free air and misting. Not trying to sound like a dick but I personally don't like the fruiting chamber you have set up, don't get me wrong i'm no expert here but they whole set up reeks of a contaminated mess. Again not trying to be rude, use what your have but from my understanding you want some holes in the container to allow for some free air exchange. Anyway, put it up for a couple weeks and forget about it, if fully colonized introduce misting and air exchange. Best of luck.

Can you explain why you think I may have a contamination problem? I put microspore tape over the air hole... you think that I shouldn't have done that? Do you seal your mono tubs without holes? Here is a picture of an example FileProxy.jpg

Sorry in the original reply I overlooked the air holes with the tape. I wasn't that keen with the foil lid, it seemed to me that that was going to be the source of contamination, it just doesn't provide a good seal. My fruiting chamber is a plastic tupperware about the size of a shoebox with 4 quarter size holes drilled in the sides and I cover those with micropore tape, I also use a liner in the chamber to prevent side pinning, I believe this is optional but side pinning is a pain in the ass. The updated picture looks better, i still wonder if they holes you have are big enough but I couldn't say honestly I just know what I use i have had success with and looking at other peoples set up they all seem to have bigger holes.

Anyway, put it up forget about it for 2 weeks, if fully colonized set it too fruit. Best of luck!

Hello C.Wurly, You said >>> "I wasn't that keen with the foil lid, it seemed to me that that was going to be the source of contamination, it just doesn't provide a good seal." You are 100% right. I thought about what you said before you said it. I was thinking about drilling holes into the lids and covering them with tape, but I didn't want to ruin the tops of the containers. Thinking about it now.... it may be worth drilling holes vs Ruining all of my tubs because of contamination. I am glad that you mentioned it to me. I am going to change the tops and place the secure lids on those tubs for a better and safer seal. Thank You.

It's all a learning process, i personally learn from failure, i want success absolutely but I also understand when dealing with mushrooming you're dealing with something far more complicated then my understanding, what works for you may not work for me, what i do one time may not work the next time. Be patient, expect failures, celebrate success.

Sorry if I came across as harsh or rude in my initial response, I'm on mobile and a lot of times text doesn't translate as well as human interaction. I wish you then best of luck, there's an incredible amount of information here on this site as well as all across the www. and loads of conflicting information too, people from all across the globe are growing so everyone's growing conditions are wildly varied, keep at it, take notes, adjust if necessary, rinse, wash, and repeat.

I corrected the situation. I took the tops and drilled some holes in them and fitted them right on top of the aluminum foil. I will uncover them in about another week or so. Thank You

I tried the aluminum and my colonizing was a big failure. I got nothing. So I’m back to the fruiting chamber air holes taped and some left not taped for carbon dioxide escape. Of course I have started a whole new project. Dumped the first one and will never use birdseed again!

No carbon dioxide release and too much water maybe

Those are not monotubs... They are trays .. you would have to fan. And mist evey 2 minutes with your cover that close to your substrate. Those shoud be stick in a martha, or in a 55gall tote with wet perlite and fae holes... Maybe thats why your having issues[IMG][IMG] thats a tub...https://mycotek.org/index.php?gallery/photos/16143/

They say 2 weeks but I have learned to wait until the tub is fully colonized
