I thought it would be good to post common types of contamination you can come across when cultivating mushrooms, and some pictures of them, so people can become more familiar with them and recognize them if they occur.

Wet Spot; Sour Rot - Bacillus sp.
    [IMG][IMG]

Bacteria blotch - Pseudomonas tolaasii on Psilocybe cubensis
    [IMG]

Cobweb mold or Dactylium Mildew (Hypomyces sp.)

This will happen to your mushrooms if you allow it to mature:

Green Mold - Trichoderma harzianum, T. viride, T. koningii

Good batch next to a green mold infected batch:

Lipstick Mold- Sporendonema purpurescens and Pink Mold; Red Bread Mold

    Lipstick mold: [IMG]
Pink Mold or Red Bread Mold: [IMG]

    Blue-green Molds- Penicillium sp.
    In grain jars:[IMG]
what it will look like on the inside: [IMG]

    Black Mold - Aspergillus sp.

    Pin Molds - Rhizopus sp.

    Hope this helps out!

We need some description too though I think,.....

Can you link those to definitions somewhere?

ok i got most of them linked up to their wiki pages. some of them were kind of tricky to find but i think they should be easily recognized by sight. such as the cobweb mold.

Well, I have a nice jar of funk-and-not-mycelium that I could contribute. Maybe we should make a post to gather new photos of all the types of contamination.

I have been having trouble with Bacteria too. I could post a few pics of my straw logs. I believe it's Sour Rot. Pasteurizer broke and I had a batch go through dirty. Smells like Betelgeuse's butt crack.
