Parafilm I see it lots of places & the same manufacture makes parafilm in a green box for grafting plants.

Anyone know the difference other than a drastic price difference?
Other than one has its own backing it's adhered to.
I've read & read but never found any information about the difference.

Material wise it is the same. But, at least I hope, the one for laboratory use is more on the aseptic side. Haven't confirmed it thou.

My thoughts exactly, oddly the parafilm 'grafting' stuff lol, comes in precursor rolls like 1 inch...etc.
This would eliminate cutting the film in advance..

I've read of people using the grafting version for sealing Petri...just nothing information wise to set in stone that they are identical except for a backing.

I have a feeling they would work the same. And while the plant one is not "sterile" I am sure the manufacturing process sterilizes the material. Idk it seems like there should be some testing done. It would be nice to have a 1" roll at a cheap price.

I just ordered a roll so I will give it a try. I bet it works fine and is clean enough for our purposes.

See good idea huh Trout ;) .
being that it's paraffin based film, other than gas eto has sterilization I can't see the material holding up under pressure.

So Trout....I'm gonna get " this ole dude" a roll of 1 inch.

Seems kinda like if one step is removed from the clean work process, that's one less area for contamination.
Following that line of thought, I kinda think this would be a great option .

If not I'll save a plant with it one day...lol

Right on! Let us know how it works, y'all!

I'm too chicken and have a whole role of the lab grade stuff to work my way through.

I definitely spent some time searching and couldn't find any definite answer on it. I also emailed the Parafilm folks but got no response as of yet.

Everything from electrical tape to saran wrap is used in place of Parafilm, but I'd say if you called any laboratory of any kind they wouldn't be using anything but the lab grade stuff and you can be pretty sure none of them would recommend electrical tape. Lol! :)

It's like anything. Many things will work to varying degrees of risk and it's all up to the individual to take those risks into consideration.

Your right many things will work, the price & the width of the film sparked my interest.
I've got a cheap 1' roll headed this way aswell

It would be cool to see that it worked just as well as the lab stuff at a lower price.

Got mine. It appears to be exactly the same product without the paper carrier. I will wash the outside with 70% iso and use on some of the next plates I make. It looks to me to be a wonderful product for the price. It is intended to be used for grafting which needs to be relatively aseptic so I would imagine it is clean. Might not use it for my slants but for plates it should be just the ticket! Stored in a zipper bag just like plates and use as needed. Time will tell.

Trout, for the price & considering the width being perfect for plates to me it's 1 inch.
Heck I think if it's lightly cleaned with ISO prior to use it very worth the purchase.

So if the roll could be split or the film cut at the perfect length,it would be unbeatable

Probably same reason I did, I was unsure a out the quality.
They'd a learning curve with paracil. For sure, takes a few Ttys to grow acustom to stretching it properly, but it does a great job adhearing to itself

I never thought about cleaning my actual parafilm. So iso doesn't hurt it?

ISO is fine, I some times do it with my lab grade parafilm.

Would you say it is a bit on the thinner side compared to lab grade?

No, if anything it might be a lil thicker.
Maybe trout will weigh in here aswell.
I'm hoping to get a perfect length idea to wrap plates, it's pretty think like 7 mil as a example
