I used to wet trim when i first started out growing with satisfactory results but always felt the end product could be better. There was always that ´hay´ smell during drying that lingered until the buds had been cured properly. The way it gets done now is to chop the whole plant at the base during the last dark period and hang it un-trimmed at 60-70f and 55-65% humidity. It took 9 days to get the plant to a point where the plant feels dry on the outside but there is still some pliability to the branches. At this point all big fan leaves are removed and branches cut. Branches with sugar leaf still intact are put into wine-boxes along with a boveda 62% pack for another 7 days in a room kept at 50% humidity and then buds are removed from the branch and placed into glass jars with a hygrometer where they will be burped daily until i´m satisfied with the feel and smell of the herb....should take about 4-6 weeks.

I´ll manicure a small amount for a weeks smoking but the rest sits in a jar with sugar leaf intact. Those little leaves that curl up over the calyxs protect the resin glands and help delicate terpenes keep their pungency. After only a few days in glass the smell is incredible. When you crack the lid it´s like warm coffee sponge cake with lemon icing, and when you break a nug open you get the strong fuel and earthy aromas slapping you round the face. Lots of other aromas going on that i can´t even describe. Lots of pleasure just inhaling the aroma from the jar!

Smokes like a dream and burns to a clean white ash. Smooth, creamy, earthy coffee on the inhale and then the coating of the tongue with that diesel, sour lemon funk on the exhale that lingers for a while. Really pleasurable to smoke which usually means i end up wasted from taking too many tokes! One of lifes problems i don´t mind lol. The high is typical indica, heavy behind the eyes and top of the head and very narcotic. It puts me out before i can make it to bed. Final weight is about 85 g taking into account the sugar leaf still on the bud.

Just to show you good folk on here how i re-cycle my soil. I´ve been doing a lot of reading on organic soil over the last few years and think i have a good understanding of the basic principles involved... yes it can take that long to grasp the basics if you educate yourself on the canna forums lol... lots of bullshit, stoner science and big egos to navigate. My mix is based on Coots-mix which goes something like this.
    1 part sphagnum peat moss
    1 part compost/ewc
    1 part aeration (pumice/lava-rock/perlite)
To this base is added per cubic foot
    1 cup neem meal
    1 cup kelp meal
    1 cup fish meal
    2-3 cups rock-dust
    1 quarter cup gypsum
    1 quarter cup calcium carbonate

The mix above will take you through the flowering cycle on water only but an occasional tea won´t hurt anything. I like to use a SST (sprouted seed tea) with a chunk of fresh aloe-vera blended, not strained 007 style lol, once every 7-10 days through the flowering cycle.

To ammend the mix for another plant i´ve added
    1/2 cup neem meal
    1/2 cup kelp meal
    1/3 cup fish-meal
    1 cup akadama
    1 tbsp gypsum
    A few handfuls of ewc.

All mixed together and loaded into a 10 gallon smart-pot and watered in with a fenugreek SST with aloe. Old mulch from the last grow placed on top and left in a shaded spot outside until needed. Job done :bigbone:

Jesus weller! Those are some fucking awesome posts! I am going to have to come back to this is a few when the kids are in bed and read that and pay attention. I just grazed through whats going on there and what a post with the drying pix dude! Thats an epic post! I wish I could have found that when I first started out. Man. I'm promoting those to articles later on! That is exactly how I dry and cure tho. I set aside a portion for a quick cure over a couple week time and keep the rest for longer before releasing it to anyone.

I couldn't have put that better myself.

Thank-you amigo, kind words. Yeah, the harvesting and drying makes all the difference... it´s critical, and yet there´s a lot of bad advice out there. I got the growing part down pretty fast when i started out but it´s taken a long while to get the dry and cure right lol, although its still being tweaked because there´s always room to do it better.
