My flowhood was left in unclean conditions for many months. Very dirty atmosphere. I recently put it in a clean room, let it run for about a week, then poured about 8 test plates of MEA. 1 week later, all but one plate show (apparent) bacterial growth. How to proceed?

Take it apart and clean with bleach water, get new HEPA filter and pre-filter if it has one. You'll have to clean it very thoroughly to kill any bacteria or other nasties, and the filter change is most likely unavoidable.

Well. Typically bacteria doesn't produce spores and is not airborne, the exception being endospores of bacteria, which could be a problem if you left an open sack of untreated grain beside the flowhood, but otherwise isn't very likely. Regardless of that. I suggest you get some sodium chlorite and some citric acid. When you mix it, it fumes chlorine dioxide, you just run the hood and fume the room. Problem solved

this is how commercial mushroom farms sanitize their operations. If you calculate the area of the room it is in, I can tell you how much of each you need
