Ok so I have 5 spawn jars of Lion's Mane that I colonized from agar using a Lion's Mane LC syringe. I just noticed that there is lions mane growing at the top of the jar but the bottom of the jars isn't even colonized yet. Why did this happen and what did I do wrong? And what do I do now? Do I prepare my substrate and spawn them or do I wait until fully colonized? It's been about 2 weeks since I dropped the agar wedges into the jars. Thanks for any help.

I tried adding the images to an album on mycotek but it wouldn't work.

It looks like bacteria in the jar thats starting to fruit. Do you have any more pictures of all your jars ?

Thanks Bod and Redcat. Here are some more pics. Some guys on a different forum said to go ahead and spawn it because this is normal with Lions Mane. Not sure if that is true or not, but at this point what choice do I have? I think I should just create some substrate and try it out.

Try it out. All the spawn looks contaminated to me..I’m hoping I’m wrong and that the others are correct and that’s normal. There’s only one way to find out.. good luck !

Why do you think it looks contaminated? Just curious so I know what to look for.

I’mworking off an iPad so it’s a bit difficult for me to type and see. It looks to me like there’s spots of green and pink/red mold. What color is the spawn you’re using? You should only be seeing your spawn and white mycelium .also the wet spots indicate bacteria along with the partial colonization.

Maybe the pics aren't coming thru right or something because I don't see any green/pink/red at all other than the actual wild bird seed itself. I'll let you know how it turns out.

Looks contaminated with bacteria. That’s why the bottom isn’t colonized. Lions mane will fruit like that with contams when the myc is stressed.

Prof - I did 5 jars of WBS. 4 of the jars I did your tek with just the polyfil in the lid and then the 5th jar I used an old lid that has a SHIP and a gas exchange hole covered with micropore tape. The 4 jars with the polyfil have massive amounts of Lions Mane growing at the top. The one jar with the other lid looks normal, it doesn't have any LM growing and it appears to be colonizing better. Maybe the polyfil lids are letting in too much air or something? Just trying to figure it out. I'm going to start over and try again.
