The pins are on the bottom of the BRC, AWAY from where I had the bulb directed. So, I'm going ALL ambient light. I think the bulb was stressful or too bright anyway. Don't they pin on top first usually?

    Thanks!

Never did cakes before but maybe light was drying out the tops of the cakes? That is interesting I bet someone has had the same issues... maybe direct the light away from the tub?

I am rotating the tub for ambient and moved my bulb about two feet away. I thought it was an odd place to pin, but seems happiest in a bit of shade. Silly shrooms

Pictures and a full rundown of your setup and procedures will help us pinpoint any issues and give better recommendations.

I have alsways used ambient light through a cloth shade for the entirety of my grows of all types of fungus. that is for agar, grain jars, spawn bags, and fruiting tubs or bags inside.

Thanks for your reply. My pin doubled in size over night! I also turned on the A.C. as I read 75 degrees is good for fruiting. My BRC jars are in a closet above a water heater @ 80 to 85 degrees. The light is low, so probably no need for a curtain.

ah. the pins will form in the best environment first. Cakes also can just fruit in weird patterns, starting anywhere.

looks like the best place for them to fruit is the bottom next to the perlite. maybe you need more overall humidity. i have had direct sunlight on fruiting tubs and didnt notice it causing any problems.

does your shotgun fruiting chamber have holes on all six sides? do you have a hydrometer inside the fruiting chamber?

I have holes on all sides, lid and bottom. It's propped up for air flow. I mist, never on the cakes, walls & perlite 3x day and fan 6x. I had a humidifier next to the tub, but was afraid of mold contam. Do you spray cakes directly? I read distilled water never direct contact. I wonder if they're dry. I'm in a apt, so limited on going whole hog.
